This paper describes the stability study of a partially liquid-filled rotor system supported by magnetic bearings. The liquid is assumed to be viscous arid incompressible. In addition to the translational mode, the tilting mode of the rotor system is also taken into account here. In order to investigate the stability of the rotor system, complex eigenvalues are calculated numerically by using Newton-Raphson's method.
